WORK EXPERIENCE

Present Assignments:-

    • The Information Resource Center of Iqra University has been computerized by using its own software: Softsol, it covers all functions of University including Information Resource Center.
  1. Librarian, Iqra University Islamabad Campus since 1st December, 2002.

    Academic Activities:
  2. Working as Tutor at Allama Iqbal Open University Islamabad for MLIS Cources since Spring 2001 Semester. Also reviewed some units of MLIS courses recently,
  3. Paper setter and Examiner of other Academic and Professional Institutions.

Assignments Completed :-

  1. Librarian, Dr. Raziuddin Siddiqi Memorial Library (Central Library), Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad From 17 January 1987 to 9 July 2002.
    • The position required high professional skills to plan and manage the Quaid-i-Azam University library consisting of 50 personnel, 175,000 books, 80,000 backdated volumes and 300 current periodicals with an annual budget of Rs. 10 million.
    • Planned and supervised the implementation of the merging of departmental libraries of Biology, Computer Science, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, D.S.S. and Pakistan Studies to Central Library.
    • Re-organized the structure of library organization. Eight sections were created (some of them were not existed previously) to provide efficient and specialized library services.
    • Cataloged and classified 35,000 books including backlog of 20,000 books and added to library collection.
    • Introduced the new method of placing direct orders to foreign publishers for the import of journals. About half out of 300 journals are being ordered direct and received regularly, thus saved in lakhs per year to University.
    • Supervised Book Bank/Bookshop and Publication Cell consisting of 10 personnel. The Book shop imported books amounting to Rs. 5 Lacs per annum with special discount direct from the publishers.
    • Planned Library Automation Project, got NEC computer terminal installed and library staff trained for data entry of books. In Ist Phase: Cataloging – in – house made software developed – data of 55,000 catalog records created in the system – Networking of Microcomputer System installed – CDS/ISIS and Library Automation and Management Programme (LAMP) adopted in 1993 – Computer terminals have been installed on all floors to search computer catalogue – Acquisition, Periodicals and Circulation functions and cataloguing in Urdu language are being planned – Networking of libraries of the campus also being planned.
    • Internet services have been introduced to facilitate researchers to access international databases of their interest.
  2. 1975-86: Librarian-II: University of Petroleum & Minerals, Dharan, Saudi Arabia.

  4. Conversion of MARC data to DMARC (DOBIS/LIBIS MARC),
  5. Online cataloging (CIP and Original) of Monographs, Serials and Periodicals,
  6. Practiced Library of Congress Classification Scheme, L.C. Subject Headings and AACR2,
  7. Automation of Serial Records: checking in all the incoming periodicals, sending claims for missing issues, and preparing bindery patterns and orders with the system,
  8. Reference and Information Librarian – Inter-Library Loan Services – Orientation Programs for library patrons.

  9. 1968-75: Assistant Librarian: Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad (BPS-17). Developed & operated Institutes of Social Sciences & Chemical Sciences Libraries.
