Current Position

(18 March 2003—till today) Working as an Senior Information Officer at Library and Information Services Unit (LISU) under Information Sciences Division of ICDDR,B: Centre for Health and Population Research since 18 March 2003 and also working as Acting Programme Librarian for the Poverty and Health Resource Centre (PHRC) since 8 March 2002.

Major Responsibilities: Responsible for acquisition, processing and dissemination of information sources, entering data into in-house database, providing reference and referral services, downloading reading materials from Internet, conducting literature search, guiding library users on how to conduct literature searches and developing search strategies, assist in formulating work strategic plans, complete questionnaires relating to library activities, maintain accounts of literature searches and updated records and statistics relating to library activities performed, also responsible for organizing and developing the Poverty and Health Resource Centre (PHRC) and also perform any other duties as and when assigned by the supervisor.

Professional Experiences

i.    27 March 2001—17 March 2003 : (1 year 11 months 22days): Worked as an Information Officer at Dissemination and Information Services Centre (DISC) under Information Sciences Division of ICDDR,B: Centre for Health and Population Research.

Major Responsibilities: Charge/issue and discharge/return reading materials; guide library users to find information and information sources, respond to queries, demonstrate techniques of using in-house database and Internet to users, trainees and visitors; maintain inter-library loan operation; and maintain accounts of photocopies, overdues, library membership forms, and daily library users and monthly records and statistics (relating to library users, photocopies, inter-library loan, clearance (applicable for ICDDR,B staff); maintain files of ICDDR,B publications for ready reference at circulation desk; entering data into in-house database (DMONO, DPROJ, DDOC); downloading reading materials from Internet and also responsible for organizing and developing the Poverty and Health Resource Centre (PHRC) and also perform any other duties as and when assigned by the supervisor.

ii.    06 October 1999—25 March 2001 : (1 year 5 months 20 days) : Worked as a Junior Assistant Librarian in the Independent University, Bangladesh

Major Responsibilities: Process books and audiovisual materials (AVM), charge and discharge AVM and reading materials, guide library users to find information sources, respond to queries, maintain records and files, perform related work for procurements of library materials

iii.      1 May 1999—30 September 1999 : (5 months) :  Worked as a Consultant for organizing the

library of the International Centre for Study of Bengal Art (ICSBA), Dhaka

iv.   Part-time working experience of One year in Dhaka University Library as a Student Assistant

v.    Obtained practical experience on reorganizing Seminar Library in a scientific manner at the Department of Library and information science, University of Dhaka from 12 October 1994 to 22 October 1994

  • Attended 7th International Conference on Asian Digital Libraries (ICADL 2004), held in Shanghai, China on 13-17 December 2004 and presented a paper on “Information and communication technologies, libraries and the role of library professionals in the 21st century: with special reference to Bangladesh”.
  • Attended 5th International Conference on Asian Digital Libraries (ICADL 2002), held in Singapore on 11-14 December 2002 and presented a paper on “Library development and education in Bangladesh: an overview” and also visited some modern libraries in Bangkok from 16 to 20 December 2002
  • Successfully completed two weeks’ short-term training programme on “Information technology applications in library and information management/services” at Central Library, Regional Engineering College, Shilchar (Assam), India, from 18 to 27 February 2002
  • Participated a 3-month attachment training programme on “Information technology for information management” at Indian National Scientific Documentation Centre (INSDOC), New Delhi, India from   21 September 1998 to 18 December 1998
  • Attended Congress and Pre-Congress session of the 49th Conference of the International Federation for Information and Documentation (FID), held in Jaipur and New Delhi, India on 12-17 October 1998
