Write up on Significant Contribution and Innovative Experience for Library and Information Services

• During my service period at both the organisations (Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Gorakhpur (Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, MHRD, Govt. of India and Assam University, Silchar) I have acquired the basic and specialised skills of managing and organising the library collections and services of residential school. and I tried to know the special needs of the students particularly of the residential school.

• In Assam University, I am next to the Librarian and I used to assist him in all activities for library organisation and management for providing better library services to the user community. After the retirement of the Librarian, the post of Librarian is lying vacant and since then I am performing all library work from library administration and management to   library services under Library In charge.

• In addition to that I have acquired the requisite skills for handling of computers for library automation and networking. Under INFLIBNET Programme the Assam University Library has been given fund for database creation, automation and networking of library services. I am looking after the overall progress of INFLIBNET Programme.

• Up till now we have been able to input 30,000 records into computer using SOUL (Software for University Library) and now extending Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) Services to the users community. Besides that we are also providing Internet facility to the users of the university. Therefore in the process of automation and networking of university library I have acquired the skills of running the programme and library application software for database creation and library services. For that purpose I have attended training / workshop as a participants as well as resource person at various places for application of computers in library and information services and Internet operation.

• In Assam University Library I have started giving user education to the fresher by organising Orientation Programme for using library resources and handling of OPAC and Internet since 1998

• Arranging Display of Books in Library (New Acquisition) and other books on various occasions time to time.

• Therefore, if I get selection for the above post I would be able to organised and manage the manual as well as computerized library and information services for providing effective library & information services to the users community.
