Dr.D.Chandran, has the the distinction of earning two masters degrees in Commerce and Library and
Information Science securing gold medals in both for first ranks. The Sri Venkateswara University awarded
him doctoral degree in Library and Information Science for the thesis entitled “The Planning in the
Management of University Libraries in Andhra Pradesh’.

His publications total 40. He has been actively involoved in organising and participating many
national seminars. He has edited two books and co-authored one book on ‘Information technology’ in
Telugu language. He has prepared Course materials for the distance education programmes in Library and
Information Science for Sri Venkateswara university, Tiruapati and Dr B R Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad.

He has an indepth understanding of the Public Library System as he spent considerable number of years with
the Public libraries. His research interest include Library automation, database creation, digitization,
computer-based information services, on-line search etc.. Presently he is guiding candidates of M.Phil
(Master of Philosophy) and Doctoral programmes.

He has delivered guest lectures at a number of workshops in the universities and a resource person
in a number of Distance education programmes.

He has been closely associated with professional bodies, like, ILA, IASLIC, ALSD, IATLIS, APLA, AGLIS,
ABGILA etc. and actively participated in their programmes. Presently he is acting as Joint Secretary
of IATLIS.

His teaching and research relate mostly to the area of application of Information Technology in Library
and Information centers, Library Science education. His active involvement in the university library’s
planning for automation, is another factor emphasizing his interest in the proposed research. The benefits of
research would influence the proposed programme of the host institution so the grant of fellowship would
benefit not only the individual’s study, research and teaching but also institution as a whole.

Currently he is working as Associate Professor in the Dept of Library and Information Science, Sri
Venkateswara University, Tirupati.
