Born in the remote rural area of Chitradurga District on 2nd August 1947. obtained B.Sc., (Mysore University, 1969) B.Lib.Sc (Karnatak University, 1970) M.Lib.Sc. (Banaras Hindu University, 1972) and Ph.D. (Gulbarga University, 1983) and Computer application in Information Processing (BARC 1978). Served as the Librarian, JJM Medical College, Davangere and joined the Department of Library and Information Science, Karnatak University, Dharwad in 1972 as Tutor. Promoted as Lecturer in 1976 and as Reader in 1984, and as professor in 1994. Complete successfully 3 research projects of UGC, NASS DOC and AICTE.Guided Successfully 20 Ph.D. students and other 12 are engaged in research work. In addition, participated 60 National and International Conferences. Associated with more than 50 Universities of the country as member, Board of studies; Board of Appointments; Board of Examinations and Board of Research Studies. Delivered numerous lectures in the state as well as out side the state. Recently he has been designated as the University Librarian, Karnatak University, Dharwad.
Dr. Karisiddappa served as a convenor of the UGC Subject Panel and completed the task of designing the Model Curriculum of Library and Information Science Programmes. He is an established teacher in LIS. Recognising his over all contributions to the field of LIS education and research, the Indian Association of Teacher’s of Library and Information Science (IATLIS) awarded him the Motiwale Best Teacher Award for the year 2000.
Dr. C R Karisiddappa is elected as the President of Indian Library Association, (2002-2004) a premier association committed to the cause of Library Movement and Development. It is for the first time a professor from Karnataka is elected for this position with thumping majority. He is also nominated member of the school Boards of IGNOU, New Delhi and NEHU, Shillong. Recently Raja Rammohan Roy Library Foundation (RRRLF) has nominated him to the Grants Commission. Dr. C R Karisiddappa has visited Republic of Yemen and Australia and delivered series of lectures in the Departments of Library and Information Studies.
