The Loganian Library of Philadelphia

James Logan was apparently an already established figure when Ben Franklin and his young chums started in the library business. Logan had a large private library which he had been collecting for about fifty years. He decided to make this into a “public” library and erected the building pictured below in 1745. The editors of the Report state that the Loganian is the first building in the country used exclusively as a library.

Library advocacy trainings available

By partnering with ProQuest Getty Research Institute and resumed the publication of IBA, One of the major bibliographic resources devoted to the history of Western art, periodically suspended because of severe budget cuts suffered by the Getty, which had previously only curator.
IBA is the continuation of BHA (Bibliography of History of Art) prepared by the Getty Research Institute and the Institut de l’Information Scientifique et Technique (INIST) from 1973 until September 2008.

LIBRARIES FOR THE FUTURE (LFF) SEEKS EIGHT STATES TO JOIN COMMUNITY ADVOCACY PROJECT

COMMUNITIES AND LIBRARIES: An Advocacy Training Program that enabled eight states to strengthen library advocacy within local communities is being expanded with additional funding from the Viburnum Foundation.  All states are being solicited by Libraries for the Future to apply for participation in Phase II of the program.  Eight states (a mix of original and new participants) will be selected for the second phase, which will build on the lessons learned during the initial program.
